Punjab News: In a decisive move to ensure high-quality agricultural inputs for farmers, the Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, under the directives of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has cancelled the licenses of two fertilizer companies. The action targets M/s Madhya Bharat Agro Products Limited and M/s Krishna Phoschem Pvt. Ltd. for supplying substandard Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) to cooperative societies in the state.
Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian revealed in a press communiqué that 40 samples were collected from the DAP stocks supplied to MARKFED by these companies. Out of these samples, 24 were found non-standard as per the Fertiliser Control Order 1985, with the results of two samples still pending.

Khudian further stated that the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Government of India, has been informed for further necessary action. The Punjab Agriculture Department has launched a Quality Control drive across the state, setting a target of testing 4,700 fertilizer samples during FY 2024-25. So far, 1,004 samples have been collected and sent to various labs for testing.
Director Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Jaswant Singh reported that the sampling of fertilizers is ongoing in districts, with continuous monitoring of the arrival of DAP (18:46) and other fertilizers. The Agriculture Minister has instructed all district heads to prioritize appropriate actions if any complaints regarding substandard or spurious fertilizers or other agricultural products are received. Negligence at any level will not be tolerated.
